There is a Chinese proverb that says, “Tell me and I will forget. Show me and I may remember. Involve me and I will understand.” One can apply this statement to many things in our lives including Sunday School. Sunday School is our chance to fellowship with our church members, grow together, and involve ourselves in Christian growth. This statement is the same for children and adults. We can read Bible stories at home, but we probably still have faded Sunday School crafts from our own childhood, be it lambs made out of cotton balls, or Noah’s rainbow made out of squares of construction paper. Those activities, crafts, and discussion with our peers, matter in our Christian lives. They also help bond relationships that can last a lifetime.

Our adult classes are each working on something completely different. Normally it's a book study with leadership shared by class members. We like having deep discussions, seeing videos by authors, and learning as a group.

  1. Disciples Class – Eternity is Now in Session by John Ortberg – This study looks at eternity and what it truly means. It shows us how to experience the rich interactive fellowship and joy that exists between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit here and now.
  2. Connections Class – This class is currently being led by James and is studying The Bible Tells Me So by Peter Enns, about reading scripture more meaningfully by being less defensive of it.
  3. Issues Class – Issues will soon start a book for the Lenten season. They will be studying Adam Hamilton’s new book The Walk. This study examines five spiritual practices we can use to strengthen our daily walk with Christ.
  4. Funday Sunday Class – This group meets once a week for fellowship, study, and good conversation. Sometimes they catch up with one another over coffee and muffins, and sometimes they are engaged in a DVD Study. If you would like to be part of this small group, they are currently studying Andy Stanley’s Irresistible.

Our children’s classes are broken up by age and we have the best Sunday School teachers with them. Every Sunday I walk the halls touched by the work they are doing. Even if they only have one student in their room, they give it their best every week. I still have crafts my own girls made in their Sunday School classes and wouldn’t trade them for a fancy piece of artwork. Sunday School for children is where they learn the traditional Bible stories and bring those stories to life with arts, crafts, and games.

If you have been in Sunday School, we hope you will stay. If you haven’t been to Sunday School, we hope you will begin. There is no right or wrong time to start. Visit them all and see what fits you the best. Just come!
