READING THE BIBLE

Reading schedule
podcast
Reading the Bible is a good thing. But it can also be a confusing, scary, bewildering thing. Not everything in the Bible is crystal-clear at first reading, or even at 1000th reading.

The Bible was written long before there were mass-produced books and massive literacy. Even though it's great to read the Bible by yourself, the writers expected that it would be read in community. Thankfully, God also gave us Sunday School, podcasts, and the Internet (!) so we can create reading and discussion communities near and far.

  • Lake Hills Presbyterian Church has a Sunday School class for adults that reads & studies the Bible every Sunday morning at 9:30am.

  • I highly recommend the podcast, The Bible for Normal People, at thebiblefornormalpeople.podbean.com. It's hosted by Dr. Peter Enns, who has also written several books about how not to be afraid of asking questions and debating the meanings of the Bible.

  • We also have this website for reading the entire Bible in a year: The Bible in A Year. It has links to sites where you can read it, hear it read aloud to you, and see it interpreted by the innovative minds at thebibleproject.com.

The Presbyterian Church has a long history of being folks who encourage questions, dialogue, wrestling with scripture, and interpreting it with your own mind. God will not smite you for asking, "Really?"

Join the discussion. Engage the written Word. See for yourself.
